Short Bio
Alakananda Hajra was born in Purba Medinipur in 1975. He obtained his M. Sc from IIT Kharagpur in 1998 and did M.Sc project work with Prof. Dipakranjan Mal. He did his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Brindaban C. Ranu at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata in 2002. Then he joined in SUNY at Albany, USA as a postdoctoral research fellow with Prof. Frank M. Hauser (2002-2004). Subsequently, he moved to the University of Tokyo as a JSPS fellow and worked with Prof. Eiichi Nakamura and Prof. Masaharu Nakamura (2004-2006). Later, he also worked with Prof. Naohiko Yoshikai at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2011-2012). Alakananda started his independent career as an Assistant Professor at the Visva-Bharati (A Central University) in 2006, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018. His research interests include the development of new synthetic methodologies and green synthetic procedures.
